The longest trip Nokwanda Ndawonde 19 had ever travelled was to her uncle’s house, a few hours from uMlazi where she lives with her parents and two siblings.

Nokwanda is one of the two new faces recruited by the Star For Life Southern Africa Choir to join the ‘Marching For Love’ tour in Sweden to commence on the 19 March 2014. The matriculate from Vukuzakhe High School was forced to put her engineering studies on hold because her mother, who works as a domestic worker, could not afford to finance her university fees. The nervous yet excited learner said this is one in a life time opportunity and she will make the most of it. “Music has always been part of my life, I started singing at church and Star For Life has created a solid foundation for my music career,” said Nokwanda.

Another Shining Star to join the tour this year is Thulane Dlomo (18) also a matriculate from the same school, Thulane said no one in his house has ever taken a flight, let alone leaving South Africa. Thulane lives with his grandmother who is a pensioner and his other two other cousins in uMlazi Township was selected from ten other boys from other schools. “I still feel like I am dreaming, using my voice to entertain thousands of audiences at an international level is a greatest goal I’ve ever achieved”, said Thulane with a huge grin on his face.

Thulane and Nokwanda will have an opportunity to share the stage with some popular Swedish musicians such as Mans Zalmerlow, Triple and Touch just to mention a few.

Thandiwe Mazibuko the Star For Life Arts Manager and the choir leader said they were not just looking for learners with beautiful voices for learners who can adapt to different kinds of music and performance’s.

The Star For Life ambassador and Swedish popular musician Ken Wennerholm said everything is set for the tour to commence on the 19 March in Stockholm and will end on the 27 March at Jönköping.

Every year the Star For Life Choir which is always made up of post matrics from Star For Life partnered schools travels to Sweden where they perform throughout Sweden as part of raising funds for Star For Life. When they return Star For Life organises tertiary bursaries for them through various sponsors.
