Star For Life learners participated in the national second Nelson Mandela Children’s parliament organized in collaboration by the Department Of Women, Children & People with disabilities and the Mpumalanga Province legislature on the 12-15 July 2012.

Working together to protect Children
The children’s parliament focused on the discussion document ( National Plan of Action for children) by the Department of Women, Children & People with disabilities.
Children from NMCF funded organizations across the country were the key participants in the sitting. The theme was broken into six thematic areas: Child protection, Child survival, Standard of living, Child participation, Child development and Climate change.

Learners’ participation.

Children’s had to prepare poems about their provinces, and they also had to write messages for the iconic figure, President Nelson Mandela for his 94th birthday. We are glad to share that out of six learners who were sent by the KZN province to event, three of them were Star For Life learners.

The minister of Women, Children & people with disabilities, Ms. Lulu Xingwane, reflected on the issues and points made by children in their parliament and committed themselves as the department to consider children’s concerns moving forward.
