Star For Life - Arts project in primary schools

Star For Life- Arts in Primary schools is a project that aims to boost self esteem through developing artistic skills in primary schools . It allows young people to express themselves through various forms of visual art

This is a pilot project that only runs in three primary schools for now; Macabuzela, Intuthuko yamaZulu and Phumlani Primary school. The plan is to expand the project into as many primary schools as possible in future.

The project coordinator Dumisani Ngubane said the project started off very well. We started on a very high note, learners are very excited and the teachers  were very welcoming”. This project will benefits the learners with both performing and visual arts skills. They will have drama classes, where they will be taught stage acting and drawing for visual arts.

The first challenge for the learners at Phumlani Primary school was to draw a Star For Life logo under the supervision of the coordinator. “It is crucial for the learners to know their own values and values of Star For Life while they are still young”, said Ngubane. Learners were also taught about values in life and values of the logo.

Mrs Gumede the principal from Phumlani primary school said this has gone a long way in enhancing the children sense of art, they have shown their talent, skills and passion in an artistic manner. This project will go along way in children self development.
