Star For Life is set to work with schools in transformation from previously disadvantaged schools into ‘Model Schools’, which is a strategy in line with department of education in KZN to develop ‘Model Schools’ across the province.

The week of the 21 to 22 of February saw thousands of learners getting inspired and motivated to follow their dreams. On Thursday Star For Life hosted a re-launch at Makhasa High school and at Cwakeme High school on Friday, with more than 800 attendees including sponsors, parents, teachers from neighboring schools, community leaders as well as Star For Life team members including the founders of the organisation Dan and Christine Olofsson, Siphile Mdaka and some members of the board.

The representative and family member of Elfström Family, the sponsor of Star For Life program at Makhasa High school Miss Kantika Nicou said, learners need to be reminded that they can achieve whatever they wish in life. “You must always remember that you’re shining stars and you still have an opportunity to live your dreams and also remember that your dreams may not come up immediately but they’re achievable”, said Kantika  Nicou.

Måns Zelmerlöw the Swedish pop singer and now a Star For Life sponsor at Cwakeme High School has pledged to sponsor at least four (4) matriculates with outstanding results with university registration fees. He also inspired learners to never give up on their dreams. “I want you aim for the stars and dream big, don’t let anyone tell you that your dreams are impossible”, said Måns.

The Director of Star For Life, Dr Per Strand said the program is now coming to stay for a longer period in schools and with more services to offer the school. The program will stay at school up until the school becomes a model school; a school that produces excellent academic results, a school that nurtures youth to become responsible and enthusiastic and learners that embrace life with all opportunities. “We now have more services other than the Life Skills Coaches, we have a Mobile health Unit that will help with health services and counselling for both learners and teachers, we have Star For Life Arts Program which will introduce learners to various forms of arts, through which learners can express themselves, we have a Star For Life Skills Program that will help learners to take a step from being a learner to become entrepreneurs in the community and we also have a Wellness Program that will help learners and teachers with emotional health support” said Dr Strand.

The attendees of the events were entertained by both Star For Life Choir Sweden and South Africa, Måns Zelmerlöw, Molly Sandén and the school dance and music groups and the local leadership.
